If it wasn't Taylor, it would be someone else. FWIW, she does what she needs to and with all of the fans that she has, she is doing what she wants. Wouldn't all of you want that?

No. Because this is just another symptom of creeping income inequality in America. It was already hard for working class people to buy concert tickets because of high prices, Ticketmaster fees, parking fees, bots, and collusion with resellers. This just prices out even more working class people. It’s just more gunpowder getting stuffed into the powder keg of class warfare in America.

I can relate. Never mind income inequality.... that is nonsense. It's become normal nowadays. It's all about selling any product people want. Remember the Eagles.... well before their Hell Freezes Over tour, no artist was getting what they charged for tickets. Tix up here in Boston started at 115 bones and went up from there.
Fast forward to just a few years ago. My niece and her mom went to see the Eagles with Taylor opening up for them at Gillette in Foxboro. (AKA: home of the Lombardi's) My SIL told me that it was one of the worst shows she had ever been to because of all the people that were there. My niece Peanut told me that what sucked for her wasn't the music, it was things like going to the bathroom and getting sticker shock at the different merch tables. Never mind for the artists... Peanut said that slices of pizza were 7.50 each, a 20 oz soda was 8 bucks, and a 16 oz bottle of water was 3.

I'm a rock dad; my kid likes it. He has numerous rock stations set up on iheartradio, which he streams through his XBox 1. Hell, he even listens to the Los Santos Rock and Radio X stations in GTAV.

This has never changed. The only thing that has changed is the name of the artist. This particular situation is still all driven by the machine. You could apply the same concept to sports or anything of public interest. Me personally I don't go to concerts. I prefer to go to the local nightclub because my genre of music has changed. Parrot mentioned about the prices of food and merchandise, all blown up just as it was before. The consumer if they want it bad enough will purchase it. Which means if they want to see Taylor or anyone else, they will pay just to say that they were part of it.

Yeah, I rarely go to stadium type shows anymore. It seems like you pay more for less at them. Crappy seats for a ton of money, over priced food and drinks. I'm going to see Big Bad Voodoo Daddy tomorrow night for $12 in a small theatre in PA. Seventh row center.

Yes Taydolf Swiftler is absolutely terrible. However, I don't see anything wrong with what she's doing here. If her fans want to pay fir that crap who cares? she's not holding a gun to their head. I don't understand he outrage.

Taylor is not terrible - the entertainment machine is. Don't like it? Don't contribute. The machine is sucked towards all that is mass marketable. Concert tickets will be more reasonable when people stop buying $200 tickets. Concert Ts will stop costing $35 - $40 when people stop buying them. From all I understand Taylor is one of the nicest and most giving pop stars in the world. Once the machine has sucked all that it can get from that teat it will move on. We are the economics that drive the machine. Redirect the money and it will change. Stop blaming artists.

Also, Ms. Swift is just a cog. If she has a $100 million in the bank, it's only because she earned machine $500 million (or more). She's not a creative artist either, as her songwriting skills were debunked years ago. It's likely she has little say over this effort depending upon when she last renegotiated her contract. Only so much of her power and sway are her own, unlike Metallica, DMB, John Mayer, etc. who are the primary source of their material and success...earned as opposed bought/sold respect sort of thing. If labels want to make money of these artists, they have to give them more...they aren't going to sign 360 deals. Taylor is highly replaceable despite the hugeness of her success, just ans MJ and Madonna were. She'll have fans for decades, but their adoration and willingness to spend insane amounts of money to see her will wain. Unlike MJ and Madonna, she seems all but bereft of any personality. She stands for nothing (avoids be pro or anti anything, except for those bastards that have broken her heart!) and contributes nothing to the discourse of art/culture...so she's another in the long line of successful vapid pop artists (albeit disproportionate to her skill set).

I wouldn’t go that far. There is an art to what she does. She’s a collaborator in a team of musicians and performers. Does she sing like and angel and create stunning new arrangements like Aretha Franklin? No. But she’s likely to have some creative input at this stage of her career, given that in the early career she was the one writing most of her songs (or at least credit with them).

Well obviously that is undefined because there is no official government or otherwise body to address such issues so obviously again that task falls to the public at large. I'm putting in my vote for "not art" but rather "entertainment.
Flamencology long ago on HCGJ pointed out "intent" in a similar discussion....I like that , intent is a good qualifier. Only TS knows her true intent but I'm guessing she is coming at is from the standpoint of selling more "product" and therefore getting more popularity thus building more potential future sales and so the circle goes....I don't think she is releasing her "souls work" with little or no regard for outcome.
TL/DR I think her her motive of intent is release popular entertainment for monetary gain first and foremost ;idk:

Well, I will not presume to know anyone's intent. That probably includes my own. My intent as a counselor is to help people, but that doesn't stop me from trying to collect money for doing it. Plus, it isn't as though Taylor Swift is the only entertainer/artist making the maximum they can.

I gotta disagree here because Taylor does write her own music. While it maybe overproduced and watered down, it is her stuff.
