  2. "No Bend" Phrasing

In this lesson we are going to deconstruct some of our favorite "cliche" pentatonic licks to give us a better sense of what is happening melodically when we play these ideas. Hopefully by removing the bends from the licks we can have a better sense of what musical idea we are trying to play when we DO bend. Many of my "newer" student soloists forget that a bend is just a way of getting from one pitch to another.

Without getting too far into scale theory, I want you to play the Major scale in the first measure of the music below. The second measure is a Major Pentatonic scale, which is just the major scale without the fourth and seventh notes. This is the scale that we have been ...
  5. Major Pentatonic Scale Lesson #2

Welcome to my second lesson on the Major Pentatonic scale! I was going to drill the other 4 positions of the scale, but I figured that you can print the music out and just repeat the process from previous scale lessons...so here they are: http://www.markweinguitarlessons.com...onicScale2.pdf

This week we are look at playing the Major Pentatonic in a more "Lateral" fashion. If you just learn the box patterns this scale can be difficult to be musical with. The scale ...
