I like this part of the forum! :aok:

OK, here's my 1980 Nissan (Datsun) 280ZX that I saved from the wrecking yard. It returned the favor by sucking my wallet dry over the last 6 years.

I don't have any before pictures because quite frankly... I didn't think that far ahead, but trust me... This car was a flaming turd when I picked it up. It was Gold, It had rust, dents you name it. The interior was trashed as well. The one thing it did have going for it was that I got from the original owner and it had been mechanically very well maintained. At last look, the motor has 254,000 + miles on it and has never had any repairs needed internally. Even the Timing Chain is original.

So After several body ship trips, a ton of custom interior work (Done by yours truly) and replacing/upgrading virtually EVERY suspension and braking component (also done by me), here she is.

Here it is just after it's first trip to the body shop and with it's first set of new wheels, 17" 7 Spoke Silver mated to custom made Billet hub adapters (Because Nobody makes a wheel to actually fit these cars).

Shortly after this, it was stolen, wrecked, and stripped. Lucky me got to start ALL OVER again. :D

Here it is after the next body shop trip and another new set of 17" Wheels.

Here it is after getting rear ended at a stop sign by an illegal alien with no license or insurance who then backed into the car behind him and fled the scene. :aok:

Another trip to the body shop, and a new set of 18" wheels. This is how it still looks today (mainly because it hasn't left my garage in two years :D)

Nice OGG! :aok:

I keep looking at getting another 'classic' but in the UK finding stuff without tinworm (or badly repaired tinworm) is tricky. On top of all the other 'classic' individuality.

Mind you my daily driver is getting on for twenty years old now, I suppose if I just hang on to it a little longer I can call it a classic :o

That's one helluva project OGG, and to have to do twice plus the rear end damage is more than impressive. What's amazing is the engine is still original. Those things got raced hard. I guess credit there would go to the guy who had it first. He must have babied the motor, maybe ran synthetic. Nice car!!

They didn't baby it at all actually. they maintained it properly, but just the normal service stuff. Those L28 Straight 6's are just crazy reliable.

In fact, the couple that owned it bought it brand new in Denver in late 1979. When they moved to California, they put a trailer hitch on it and towed a trailer full of their belongings behind it. It did so well, that they left the hitch on it.

Over the next two decades+, they used it to tow a pair of Harley Davidsons to Sturgis South Dakota once a year (and back) for the annual Biker rally. It still had the hitch on it when I bought it. :D
