tuning into your emotions when song writing

This is a simple method I found for me when I write songs : I found out that when I'm hurt, writing a song about being hurt comes easy. When love is in the air, then when writing about love, the song I am writing is attracted to my heart, my words for the lyrics flow from within and a feel of sunshine is present. So for me, songwriting comes down to just writing about ones emotions with deep feelings, whether it is, has been or ..... that is the hardest part to pin point. I think I just let this part connect with me and let it flow and see what happens .

Most of my songs are based on a combination of emotion and cognition. Some songs rise out of an experience, but my more recent writing has been based on a theme for a sort-of concept CD. I do find for the most part I write about what I know.
