When I write songs, I make the intro, which is usually the chorus, then a verse, and repeat. Then I solo during the chorus. I know songs need a bridge and break. What should they usually include and sound like?

Songs don't HAVE to have anything, but bridges are usually a section that is contrasting with the rest of the song.  If a song is in a major key I like bridges that are in the relative minor key and vice versa.  When we get back to the regular chorus or verse progression it sounds a little fresher..we're not as tired off it...

"Over Pennsylvania" is in the key of G major.  For the guitar solo I go to E Minor (the relative minor key) and for the bridge I center it around the A minor or ii chord in the key of G.

Here are a couple of lessons centered around the song:

Cool! How do you know what keys sound good with other keys and how do you know what chord wants to resolve to what? wave0

Thats a pretty big subject....we'll have to cover that in your lessons as we start learning diatonic harmony....
