Malekko Ekko 616

The Ekko 616 is the latest analog delay pedal from Malekko Heavy Industry. No longer will clock noise be an issue with your delay. The Ekko 616 has virtually no clock noise and with the buffer engaged, it could be the quietest analog delay on the market! The switchable buffer/true bypass allows you to get either a brighter full frequency tone or a darker more Floydian sound respectively. Malekko is well known for the high quality Echo 300 and Echo 600 pedals, now the Ekko 616 brings the price down to the working musician’s budget. The Ekko 616 also features adjustable modulation with the controls right on the front instead of having to open the pedal up and deal with annoying trim pots.

Malekko Ekko 616 Tone

The Malekko Ekko 616 has a solid hand up in the analog delay market. In buffered mode, the guitar’s signal is strong and clear and the repeats maintain clarity a bit longer than your average analog delay. With the true bypass mode engaged, your signal remains unchanged (this is also a great way to compare buffered vs. true bypass in your setup) and the repeats are warmer and more lo-fi. The modulation is fantastic. The speed and depth controls are right at your fingertips and range anywhere from subtle chorusing to wildly modulated pitch craziness. It may be a newcomer but its definitely a contender. The Malekko Ekko 616 is destined to become a staple for any working musician that needs a great sounding analog delay pedal, pedal, pedal, pedal….

Malekko Ekko 616 Features:

Virtually NO Clock Noise
True Bypass/Buffered Bypass (Switchable)
Extreme Modulation!
Internal Gain Control for Buffered Bypass Output
Speed and Depth Controls on Front Panel for Modulation

lol.

The Strymon looks pretty good but I'm not sure how much I need that much delay for this new board. I could almost go with a Carbon Copy except for part of me wants to try some fancy pants cork sniffer shit.

I saw the Visual Sound at NAMM but didn't get a chance to play with it since the crowd was so big at the booth.

That looks rad but it's a lot more than I would want to spend. One the other hand, they do make a "Jr" version that might be in my ballpark: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-DIAMOND-MEMORY-LANE-JR-DIGITAL-DELAY-IN-BOX-/320908910307?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item4ab7a95ee3#ht_2850wt_1165

So the new trend (even though it has been around forever) is Tap Tempo. Hopefully that band doesn't gradual speed up or down a few clicks to go out of time.

Or....the tempo counted is not the tempo of the song lmbo

Depends on the band. I wouldn't bother with my cover band since the tempos are so crazy most of the time but with Tyler and Martin it would probably work. And live I'd have the repeats less obvious so you get the general idea but you're not getting the rhythmic thing shoved down your throat if the band does drift.

I guess I could always try one and send it back if I don't dig it. I'm a month or two away from looking at anymore pedals right now though. I'm just thinking my way through what I'd like to look at and what might work for this situation.

so if the band drifts, then the delays are out. but if you use a pre-set delay that isn't at the tempo of the song, then the delays are out anyway. tap tempo just allows you to not turn knobs for every song, or have to have presets for every song. i really don't get what the ridicule is about.

Back when (80's) I used to use a Roland SDE1000 which had 4 presets. My settings (midi days) were (IIRC): 120ms (Quick Repeat Rock); 220ms (Gillis); 330ms (The Edge), and 440ms (Long Swells). Those were all I needed. I have played with the tap tempo on my Pod and learned to use it well but the music I played didn't require for me to be in exact time. As for today, I don't have an issue bending down because out of a set I may change once only.

As for my redicule, it has to do with how many times are you changing the songs tempo? Out of all the years I have played (me now), I have only needed the delay to be in time only once. And that is because it was an original tune where the echo works with the tempo of the tune. Outside of that - meh.

it must be nice to play everything at one of four speeds. sorry, i don't have set speeds for my music. it's always changing.
