View Full Version : using gain
when playing the blues should you have the gain way up and the volume to where there is a mild but distinct distortion to your tone. I mean when you are playing lead guitar.

Well, I'm not by any stretch a blues player..but if I am playing that sort of thing, I tend to actually set the gain very low and the master volume set high (It's a Marshall Combo I'm using) to get a more natural power amp distortion rather than pre-amp fizz. Then I just use the guitar volume/pick ups as necessary.

I got a Marshall little combo 20 watt and I just checked what I'm using gain on 8 and volume on 2 and actually I was experimenting with what you said, it seems to have what you said was right, so I change it back. It did give it more of a natural fuzz or distortion. Thanks

Cool :thu:...the high gain setting I think suits hard rock/metal more.
