Here is a comparison of the Transparent Overdrive VS. the Paul Cochrane Timmy which is a handmade pedal that goes for much more money and has a pretty long waiting list...

Interesting....

I know the 'Timmy' is one of the pedals that everyone on the HC effects board drools over. The two effects definitely do not sound alike at all. But I did notice that the 'Timmy' at 12:00 was far from 'transparent' when kicked on. There was a noticeable brightening of the tone over the dry tone. The Dano pedal was actually closer to the un-effected treble/bass tone than the 'Tim' was. I would agree that the 'Tim' had a better tone than the Dano, but if you have a bright amp (like I do) that might not be the right drive pedal. The Dano did sound pretty good, but it did 'muffle' the tone a bit, like you were listening a bit off axis from the amp.

In the section with the treble down and the bass up (around 5:000 they did sound very close to identical. I could still pick out the Dano without looking at the video - but barely.

I wonder how the Dano would compare to my Sparkledrive... or any other TS808 clone for that matter?

I would think that the Sparkledrtive would be a better pedal, but I've never tried one.

EDIT: I would use this instead of a Tubescreamer any day, though...and I've owned 3-4 actual tube screamers...

Maybe I'll have to pick one up and do a test demo.
