So tunes are due on Monday, July 27th and we'll have a reveal on Tuesday, July 28th.

I'm thinking the theme will be "Collaborations" although if you just want to do your own thing thats OK, too.

I've been really unmotivated to play lately. I've played acoustic a bit, but I probably haven't played an electric guitar for more than an hour combined in the last month.

SOmething pretty RAWK.

Lemme go home and go through my mp3s and see what I can come up with.

When you say RAWK, you mean something originally performed by a bunch of guys wearing spandex and lots of Aqua-Net, right? :o

Well, I am definitely going to need a drummer for an instrumental I am learning. There is no way I will want to try to program drums for this one.

I would probably like to do more than one since it is an instrumental. I have a couple I wouldnt mind trying or would be willing to pitch in on someone's song. Keeping in mind I dont have a great deal to offer.

Question though, when you do a collaboration, do you just do the tracks you are responsible for and send them along as an mp3 for the other(s) to drop in and record with?

Here's how I've done collaborations in the past.

If I'm the originator, I'll do the rhythm tracks, including drums, bass, and guitar. Then I'll mix that to stereo, convert it to mp3 and pass it along to whoever I'm collaborating with. Then they will do their tracks, say a rhythm guitar track and a lead guitar track. I like for them to send me a rough mix of my tracks with theirs, plus each of their tracks as a seperate mp3...preferably with no compression or reverb or anything like that on it. Then I'll import their tracks into my DAW and mix them with my tracks, adding any compression or reverb or EQ or any other effects as I see fit.

If I'm not the originator, I'll get the mp3 of the mix of whatever has been completed by the originator, then I'll do my tracks, say vocals and lead guitar, and I'll send back a rough mix of everything together, along with a seperate mp3 of each of my tracks. Then they will import them and mix them with their tracks.

I find it's better to import mp3s of each track into your DAW for mixing than to just have somebody send you a mixed version of the tracks they did already in the mix with your original tracks, especially if you're collaborating with more than one person. Every time somebody renders a track to mp3, it loses a little bit of quality and if it gets converted 3 times, it starts sounding really messy.

Does that make sense?

Johnny, what instrumental? I can try to do drums for it.

I am also up for doing collaborations with anyone here, as long as it isnt 1) KC and the sunshine band-type happy, poppy light stuff and 2) isnt in opposition to my well-known ....spiritual beliefs. In other words, even though musically they may be cool, no Maiden or anything like that.

I know, too many restrictions :o But if anyone is still up for it let me know.

I think if I had to decide to be as good a player as PG, but having to be as weird as he is, or being as good a guitarist as I am and being fairly well adjusted....

I'd probably stay pretty well adjusted.

That guy is just strange.

Great guitarist, but freakin' out there.

Ironically that's what I like about him :)
He can do everything from really great pop songs to some really out there instrumental stuff, and always seems to have a whole lot of fun while doing it.
That, and he doesn't seem to take himself as seriously as 99% of the "shred" guys. ;)

I'd be keen to get your guitar on something I'm working on. Probably that chuggy Mesa sound or something (if you still have it). I'm thinking of quad-tracking the rhythm parts (4 different amps cranked and then blended).
Phil, I'd really like to get some keys from you. Dunno if you're able to import stuff into your current setup, but if you could, and you are keen.......
It would be an original, not a cover.

I dont have either Mesa anymore but as long as my fingers are up to it I assure you I can get as heavy of a chug as you need as long as you dont mind modelers. Only thing I cant currently do is feedback but I should have a cab tomorrow, at which point I'll be able to mic up the Randall so even that shouldnt be a problem and that would also NOT be a modeler, the Randall is all tube.

I hope that doesnt sound arrogant, I am not a very good player by any stretch of the imagination but I've always tried to develop my right hand and have always chased the chuggy sound so I am definitely up for it, I enjoy it.

Cool. I've got something I just started working on, it's pretty rough at the moment. If you give me a couple of days to flesh it out and get a better idea of what it supoosed to do, I'll send you the files for your input & ideas.

Nobody laugh but I was going to try to do Wipeout. As a crappy player, instrumentals are not going to be my strong point but I figured out the main part and thought I could each section with a different sound or guitar and figure out a simple solo somewhere in it.

I just cant even think about programming drums for it.

I've been trying to get myself back into writing/recording music for a couple years now. I've fallen into a loop of nostalgia for stuff I've written in the past and self-loathing in that I can no longer match the quality of it. :o

I'm hoping to flex my songwriting muscles a little bit with these Recordingfest deals, and I think working with someone else will help push it along a bit. :aok:

I've still yet to start on any recording.

I've got two songs in mind. One is a collaboration with Mark and the other may be with Chihli and Mark, but both songs require me getting my butt into gear and getting the drums and bass recorded before anything else can be done.

PM'ed ya mine over at HC Mark...
I see that it's not due till the 27th so I may redo some stuff on it. But if you don't get another one from me, then consider what I sent you as my final mix.

It's a cover of one of my bestfriend's originals.
