I bought this a little over a year ago, and it is my first "nice" Telecaster-style guitar.

I have a Suhr Classic (the Strat-style) that I love and I thought it would be nice to have the companion Telecaster since I've always wanted a Tele and have never found a Fender that I was happy with.

Features:

Body - one piece swamp ash

Neck - one piece plain grain maple

Tuners - Gotoh "Kluson" style

Bridge Wilkinson - Gotoh 3 saddle compensated

Suhr Pickups

Plek setup: http://www.plek.com/en_US/home/

Buzz Feiten Tuning System http://www.buzzfeiten.com/

This is the first custom guitar I've ordered that turned out better than I had planned. My idea was that I wanted a "vintage" aesthetic with modern features. I really like the sound of a 3 saddle bridge but I was never happy with the intonation and action in the ones that I had tried. Between the compensated saddles, the Plek setup, and Feiten tuning this guitar plays incredible and is about as "in tune" everywhere on the instrument as you can possibly be.

The body is "Tele" shaped, but has the arm and stomach contours of a strat as well as an enhanced cutaway for extended access to the upper frets...a bonus for someone with big hands smi

It is a simple but incredibly refined instrument, exactly what I was hoping for and more.

Since these are custom ordered guitars they can be pricey...with the 30% discount that I got from Tone Merchants (http://www.tonemerchants.com/) here in Orange the instrument was still about $2500. I was able to place an order specifying everything I wanted down to neck radius, nut width, paint, frets and more.

Here is a sample build sheet from one of the guitars on the Tone Merchants website:

Here are a couple of vids of the guitar in action:

I would absolutely buy another one if this were lost or stolen! smi

So what is the neck radius? Looks pretty flat. I'm guessing 12-16".

What about the finish on the neck? Is it satin, gloss, oil? Looks either satin or oil in the pics, but it's sometimes hard to tell.

Beautiful guitar. AOK

Thanks!

The neck radius is a 10-14" compound radius and the neck is a satin finish. I actually prefer gloss but Suhr doesn't offer that ...this is more than fine for me, though biggrin

I actually prefer oil finished or raw over everything else. Both of my Warmoths are raw. I've got two Wolfgangs that are oil finished and the US Masters is oil finished.

I think the only bolt on guitar I have that has a glossy neck finish is my old Peavey Predator.

I grew up with glossy necks so they've never bothered me...I don't think I have anything raw or oiled...

i played it. i can see where the appeal is, but its not for me. its a really comfortable, smooth playing guitar. but there's no raw quality to it that's inherent to my tele. what i did like about it is that it doesn't feel so engineered that there's no mojo. its got plenty, i just like my mojo a little ruder.

I think one thing a Suhr WON'T do is rude...I'll probably do a Warmoth parts tele later on for something along those lines...
