This is the free site, of Guitarmasterclass.com run by Kris Dahl, who is an excellent guitarist. Freelicks.net teaches famous solos, and breaks them down step by step(with Tabs) focusing more on the hard rock/metal side of things(Metallica, G N R, Scorpions etc)

Yea, his site is really cool!

He's a great player, however I am often missing the feeling in his playing...
He's focusing too much on technique and I don't really l ike that.

Don't get me wrong, technique is important but bringing the right
feeling in your songs is sometimes even harder.

Actually - I think its a bit intentional to make Freelicks.net kind of dry. He has a Pay per month Site called Guitarmasterclass.net that is way better and is really what he is trying to push, but then again it costs about $10 a month. If you go to it there are a few free lessons. I did it for a number of months, but then stopped. He's also got a few instructors now, and its keeps getting better and better. He is really good, but you can tell he's all about the metal/speed style - I think he's located in Sweden - And you know those Europeans are all about speed.

If you are looking to learn a little lick here and there he always has a "Lick of the Day" that is free on Guitarmasterclass.net that changes daily - but he recycles them . I had actually forgotten about those . My biggest problem is I hate sitting in front of a computer when playing guitar - I need to figurew out how to stream the internet to my TV easily

I have to agree.... many many people over here freak out when they
see someone playing at lightning speed...and laugh at people who play slowly..

However, I'm from Europe and I prefer a slow player who puts feeling into his music.
One example would be David Gilmour from Pink Floyd... he's one of my favourite
guitar players.. because he knows how to give you the chills with his music..

I am slow, and can't imagine ever being that fast at this point in my life - 38 years old, picked up the guitar at 31, but I am around alot of kid musicians at our church who are all about speed, but one thing that has always stuck in my mind is what one teacher said: That when playing lead riffs and licks and solos, its all about the space between the notes that makes it great.

I've just started in my late 50s, so you're only a young sprite!

As my main focus is the blues, I feel that's particularly relevant advice for me.

As for 'shredding', I see it as mainly a technical skill like being able to hammer a nail in straight, but not as music or even guitar-playing, in the normal sense, for that matter.
