1962 Gretsch Tennesean

For 1962, everything about the 6119 changed. The body was now a 1 7/8"-thick single cutaway Electrotone with fake f-holes, carrying two HiLoTrons instead of a single FilterTron, and the fretboard was now bound rosewood. Silver pickguard with Gretsch and Chet Atkins Tennessean in black replaced the earlier black one, and controls now included a volume for each pickup, master volume, tone switch, pickup selector switch and standby switch.

Very few were made without fake binding around the fake "F" holes. Since Gretsch batch build in 50's it's possible this is one of only 50. Most 62's have the fake binding.

David Crosby, Tom Petty and Hilton Valentine all own(owned) Tennys without the fake F hole binding.

I know it's not the norm, but I really don't care for Grestches.

I mean, it's aesthetically pleasing (though I'd prefer it to either have real F-holes or none at all), but it just doesn't tickle my fancy.

I agree. They just don't do it for me. I actually feel that way about pretty much anything with a Bigsby, Gretsch or not.

Me too.

2 ways to make a guitar unattractive to me are to put a Bigsby on it or to put a bunch of abalone on it.

If you could find this with a Bigsby, I think you'd hit the ultimate 'I hate that' status with me. :o

I don't know...maybe if you found a Dean Razorback with that finish and a Bigsby you'd top it, but I don't know that a monstrosity like that could exist in this reality. :o

I love the Gretsch tone - but the fake 'F' holes have to go. Either have real ones or not at all....
