Generally natural and butterscotch Teles are ash, but I just looked on Musician's Friend and they've got a sunburst Tele Deluxe that looks like alder, and they've also got a listing for Telecaster American Deluxe Ash Series, which costs $100 more, so it looks like that's the only way to get an ash body on an American Deluxe. The regular American Deluxe apparently doesn't come in natural or butterscotch this year.
As for previous years, I'm not sure, but like I said before, generally the natural and butterscotch have been ash bodies.
Thanks Prages. I really wasn't for sure but all these years I thought it may have been an ash wood. By the way are you a Telecaster player? smi

Not really. I have one...a Korean made Lite Ash, but I've got it sold to one of my band mates. His wife bought it for him for his birthday in November, so I've got it until then.
It's a good guitar, and it is versatile, but I'm really more of a fat Strat type of guy.

I think the Ash vs. Alder body is one of the things that are unique in Delx. Vs. Std/
