So that it doesnt just flake off immediately?
***** has a kinda cool Soapbar P-90 Strat, for cheap, i thought it might be fun to try out. But has a tortoise guard. Blah.

You'd have to rough up the pickguard to get the paint to stick. Even then, I'm not sure it would hold up at all.
I'd just get a new pickguard for it. You can find them online for about $10.
One of the local music stores around here actually has a bunch in a 'clearance' pile that are pretty cheap. I'm thinking maybe $10 or so. All the holes may not line up, but it's not like you'd be drilling new holes in a '57 Strat.

hahaha. True. Maybe if i found a twin bucker pickguard, then just widened it a bit for the soapbars. . .
We'll see. Just looks kinda fun. Its a hardtail also, which is good for me.

Yeah, maybe if i scuff it good and try not to really beat it with a pick, it would hold up. Here is the guitar.

Oh, I completely overlooked the soapbar part. Those might be harder to find in the $10 range.
IMO, don't let the tort pickguard keep you from some P90 goodness.
Chances are it'll look better in person than it does in photos...the pickguard that is. I've seen some SX with some pretty funky grain and horribly obvious seam lines, but that's not just an SX problem...I've seen the same thing on Fenders.

True, it might not be horrible if i see it.
I mean, for only $118, or something like that, it looks like fun.
I have an SX tele that i like, just had a really crappily cut nut, once i fiddled with that a bit im really happy with it. And it was only like $106 or so.

Well if you do, I can route the soap bar shape in to a blank, or a double humbucker if it will cover it.

Hey Phil, I can make that guard for you if you don't find one. The screw holes are definitely in different positions than on my strats. If you send me the guard for a day or two to make a drawing of it, I can make a direct replacement. I've got some white/black/white 3ply left over...enough to make one. I'll send your guard back after drawing and when a machine opens up, I'll run the guard.
