I was there. If I had the spare $500 or whatever it costs I'd probably just go buy one.....

what happened to your gear as a business expense mantra?

I bought a house, have 2 college funds and have plenty of music writeoffs in replacing and repairing worn out gear at the studio before I think about buying new stuff for myself. You toes would curl looking at the bids I just got for a new roof today
I might be picking up some working gigs this year (I've gotten calls for a regular contemporary jazz gig and my old top 40 band is starting to use me as a primary sub) so if those turn into some cash I might update a few things, though...biggrin

nice.
if you haven't watched these vids, i suggest you do. they blow away the "demo" we saw at the NAMM show. this guy knows what he's doing. and his signal chain will crack you up considering how good it sounds.

I skimmed the videos the other day..they are incredibly impressive pedals...

you don't want the So-Cal. it has Dimarzios. you want the non-pickguard version with the '59/JB set.

Probably me too...should be fun, though. Our trumpet teacher Josh (who also gigs as a guitarist) got one from his wife for his birthday last week...he said he'd bring it in....

Cool stuff - What would I use it for? I can't think of an application that I would be able to use this for the covers that I do now.

Its a bit overkill for a cover gig....might be fun trying to nail some of the more esoteric sounds, though...

part of me is really wanting this and the other part is not thinking I'll use it $500 worth. I have the Timefactor and have four sounds that I use on a regular basis.

the thing for me about the PF isn't the number of sounds that i use. it's that those that i do sound so much better than every other pitchshifter out there. yeah, you could get a BOSS or a Whammy for much less. but they're not going to sound as good. that's where my $500 went to.

That and the presets are why I like my timefactor. I'm still trying to decide if I really want to go this route because then I'm running into to same thing we were discussing in the other thread about pedalboard space and whatnot.
It's a whole expensive can if worms. I just have to figure out if it's worth it to open the can in the first place.

well then let's ask the larger question. what is it you're trying to accomplish by getting a pitchshifter?

That's the thing. There are songs where I want to have an octave single note sound, and a few where it would be cool to try and recreate some horn lines with the diatonic I harmonies. That's some stuff that would be cool to have but none of the cheaper stuff that I've tried has the features or sound that I want. Not convinced that the added feature are with the money to me though.

if you're only looking for "down" octaves, a used BOSS OC-2 will do just fine.
if you want one down and one "dirty" octave, get a Foxrox Octron.
for anything more than that, then the Pitchfactor is your pedal.
now, i wouldn't get any of these if it's a "wouldn't it be nice" scenario. if you don't absolutely have to have it, then don't bother going down this road. yeah, it's cheaper and much less frustrating than getting another guitarist. but it's not essential either.

I think I'm going to shelve this idea for the time being. Doing it right will mean a larger pedalbaord and probably another way of doing my power. And if I go there I'll probably go hog wild and get a Vanamps reverb. Maybe in a few months I might entertain the idea again and do a whole pedalbard redo. I really want to have the capabilities and I think it'll really add to what I have to offer in the trio but I'll end up spending about $1000 in total by the time I'm done (if I do it the way I want to).

at that point, just get an H8000.

or get another guitarist to play exactly what you play 300ms after you, and a 4th up.
