I was looking at computers to start recording with and would a mac mini server edition with 8 gigs of ram, 2x500gigs of hd and a intel hd3000 video card work for recording? the only game I play is minecraft so tha video card isnt a big deal for me but I have no clue if the rest of the specs would have enough power to start recording.

I couldn't see why not. I have a new Mac mini at work that is way more powerful than my protools iMac.

Would seem like it would be fine to me. Just need a big enough hard drive to store your stuff.

It's the new rage over on the Gearslutz forum. If I can't afford to snag a new Macbook Pro than the MMS is what I'm going to get.

I have a friend who works for Apple and he has speculated that the full-size Mac Pro is not long for this world, especially since Thunderbolt now has PCIe card adapters and they've been so slow in model revisions over the last few years.

I figured spec wise the computer could handle it but I didnt know if there was anything I was missing. Im just starting on the adventure of recording so I have zero knowledge of anything about it.

Get a regular mini with a big FireWire drive for audio. 500gb will go quicker than you think.

Regular minis don't do the i7 do they? I thought the only downside of the Server compared to the stand version was the lack of a dedicated video card.

Right. That's the one I've been looking at. But the non-server Minis don't IIRC.
