my crappy M-Audio speakers finally ate it. or more to the point, i can't fucking stand them not working right, so they're going out in the trash next week. i'm not doing anything amazing, i just need something that sounds good when listening to music, playing keyboard, and scratch demo recording. i've got it down to these. whatcha think?

I've read that they're supposed to be pretty good for the money. I haven't ever tried them out, though.

You probably won't find anything better new for that price, although I'd be more likely to hunt for a pair of used KRK Rockits or even Samson Resolvs for not much more.

I've got KRK Rokit 8s that I like a lot. But I read on forums sometimes that they're not transparent. :idk: CDs sound pretty killer through them.

+1
But either way, you can't go wrong.

Transparency is bullshit. Translation is what maters and that's your room even more than your speakers. No matter how "transparent" your speakers are, you still have to learn their characteristics and how they interact with your front end and even where in the room to place them. Genelecs in a shitty room will make for shitty sounds, although they may be detailed enough for you to hear the peanuts. :o

I have a pair of KRK Rokits I really like - though they are the cheaper Rokit 5s. They sound awesome.

I'd put in a bid for these and hope for the best.

I have a pair of the TR-8 (not XL, which adds something like 50 watts per speaker) and I absolutely love them.
Though, they are the only monitors I've ever had.
Still, I've had them for about 7 or 8 years and I don't feel the need to replace them.

I have the non-USB version of those. I love 'em.
