That's New Guitar (Chihli won't like) Day.

So, I traded the Cyber Twin for the '84 V with the Kahler. I noticed it needed a setup, and was more beat than I expected from my communications. Still, for the V and $150, I decided to go ahead and do the trade. We met at Guitar Center, so as soon as the guy left, I went in to see what they'd give me. After some hemming and hawing, they offered me $500, and pointed out that the bridge pickup was not original...I didn't know enough about old Gibson pickups to dispute it...and, I know this particular salesman, he knows his stuff. They didn't have anything I wanted to trade for for $500 in the V plus the $150 cash....so I drove to the back of the shopping center and went to Sam Ash. We went around and around over a few things, and ended up with them giving me $615...they had a '94 American Standard Tele in near mint condition, marked at $800, which is a bit high...with no case. So, a bit more back and forth, and I leave with the Tele in the funkiest case I've ever seen for $765 out the door.

good job!

check the routing under that pickguard. the strats of that era had a swimming pool route. so you could change the pickguard and put whatever pup configuration you wanted without any permanent modification.

i dunno if the teles were the same, but its worth looking. put a couple of buckers in there, and it could get you closer to that LP sound you're looking for.

A tele can sound really close to a lester, especially with the rosewood fretboard:aok: I wouldn't ditch it either. That ones a keeper. Start horse trading again if you have to have to have to have a les paul. :aok:

put some buckers in that tele. turn up, add a dirt pedal, and play with a band. i doubt anybody in the audience will be able to hear a difference. its all about feel (and most teles don't feel like lead bricks).

I agree that feel is of high importance....and I love the feel of a Lester.

I agree with Chihili.

Lester>Tele.

I like Teles, but I love my Lester.

Of course, a tricked out Strat pwn3s them all. :o

The other thing is that, when I start5ed, I told Mrs Aahzz that I wanted to see if I could keep trading 'til I got to a Les Paul without adding any cash...so, we'll see if I can. I have a goal....so, even if this is a sweet tele (which it is), I'm not done yet.

It's gorgeous and it plays like a dream...and it's still a step towards my ultimate goal, rather than being the goal. It's official - it's not my Lester yet...keepin' my eyes on the prize...
