Its 3-piece maple neck features a wide-thin shape for very easy playing, and the rosewood fingerboard is adorned with classy moon inlays. Paul Reed Smith SE Custom 24 Solidbody Electric Guitar at a Glance:

Get great tone, the PRS way
The combination of a mahogany body and maple top gives the SE Custom 24 a perfect balance of rich midrange and bright snap (and the beautiful flame maple top veneer helps make this instrument a real looker). Add HFS and Vintage Bass humbuckers in the bridge and neck positions, respectively, and you've got a recipe for some outstanding tones! The SE Custom 24's maple neck has a wide-thin carve, making it very fast and playable. And the distinctive neck joint means you can reach all 24 frets easily for stellar solos. The hardware is, as always, very stable and dependable. You can count on the PRS-designed tremolo bridge and tuners to keep the SE Custom 24 in tune while allowing you to express yourself at home, onstage, or in the studio.

If you've ever seen a Paul Reed Smith guitar up close, you know what we mean when we go on about how great these guitars look. There's nothing better for a guitar enthusiast than seeing, feeling, and, yes, smelling the finish, figure, and complexity of these guitars. If geography prevents you from stopping in and checking them out, however, you can get the next best thing: detailed, multi-angle views at our online Guitar Gallery.

Maybe I'm just spoiled because I've had a PRS CE24 for 16 years, but the SEs just don't do much for me. I don't like the flat tops. Part of a PRS's charm is in its carved top.

I'm sure it plays great and sounds great, but I'll keep my CE.

I'd keep it too. Send it this way. biggrin Actually for some reason I really really like the look of the flat tops on these things. They grey one really makes me salivate. Flat top, grey flame, zebra pickups, I dunno theres something about it thats just smokin. At first I thought "you kinda cool" but over the years since they came out I like them more and more, and now I absolutely love 'em.

the thing about these guitars is that even with the slight increase, they're probably the best value in that price range. they kinda leave me flat too (no pun intended), but they're decent guitars. much better than what Gibson/Epiphone, Fender, Ibanez, Schecter, etc. are putting out for the same money.

Oh yeah? Maybe i should give them a second look then. I sorta always assumed Schecter was the bargain leader in that price range.

well DUH! :)

I personally dig the SE's because the necks really fit my hands well...but yeah, If I had the extra $2K I would prolly go for the carved top too. biggrin

they have a nice range of styles and are starting to get away from the BROOTALZ image. but most of the guitars i've played feel like deadwood to me. i'm sure they are capable of producing guitars that don't feel like that, but i haven't run across one.

if i were looking at a guitar in that range, i would immediately start with Reverend.

I'm not a huge PRS fan and this guitar doesn't do much for me but I think I can see where Help! says its a great value for the money....

Weird. Never ran across one like that. Ibanez does that for me, but obviously Im a pretty big fan of Schecter.

Not bad, I don't mind the SE's...

I had a second generation Santana SE and I have to admit that although it was a nice enough of an instrument, I didn't bond with it the way I have with my *****.

Now I see that this one actually has the PRS HFS and vintage bass pickups that the Santana SE didn't, which could make a major difference. I'd definitely pick it up and give it a try although the wide-thin neck would be a MAJOR negative for me.

It looks really, really nice. I have played a couple of the SE's and they just didn't really excite me much as a player. I would definitely give that guitar a chance though. I like the way it looks a lot....

I have an SE and it's great. I did put a JB in the bridge though.:aok: Other than that, all stock. I play it at every gig. Mostly 'cause the singer jumps around with a mic stand. And I usually don't bring a backup.

tele - completely off topic, but how is that Epi '56 with the P-90s? i know they have alder tops and it makes me wonder how "authentic" it sounds.

It sounds really good, whether it's authentic or not, I don't know. When I was playing in the country band, the singer liked it the best out of anything that I have. I have a LP, but not with P90s, so I don't have a good comparison. Wait, hold on... here you go. Noodling to show the amp. *with dog interruptions* biggrin Neck pickup to start. Yea, that little lunchbox is the amp:aok:
