Within the year, I also bought Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em. So, I'm a dork as well. :(

The first tape I ever owned was Thriller, and I remember when my mom took me to the store to buy a copy. I didn't understand what was going on, because I was oblivious to the hype about MJ. To this day, I don't have any idea what possessed my mother to take the initiative on that. She's not much of a popular music fan.

I was 5 when I got Thriller.

Really dating myself here, but the first music I remember buying was a 45 single from Jefferson Airplane called 'Volunteers' .

I think my first full length album was either 'Desolation Boulevard' by Sweet, or The Beach Boys Greatest Hits Volume 2.

Good god you make me feel old.

I played in a band with one of their first drummers and we used to practice at Eric and Gwens parents house in Anaheim. The one time I actually met Gwen was before Tragic Kingdom came out and she held a door open for me to get my amp into their living room and then looked at me like I smelled bad.

Maybe I did :-[

Eric, Tom and Tony used to come out to our gigs to give Don shit ;D

I think that was the first CD I ever bought/stole from my older sister.

I think it was actually that and Great White - Twice Shy, so that's a huge cool point deduction from the Black Crowes. :-\

Oh, and I would have been 11 when I bought Slippery When Wet and Invisible Touch.

I'm around the same age as them and grew up in the same area..the first time I saw them play at Fenders Ballroom they had they the other singer and Gwen was "backup singing" in a cheerleader outfit on the side of the stage.

They were a fixture on the scene here for years before they finally made it and we would see them from time to time in the local rehearsal studios so it was almost surreal when they finally made it big.

The night they had their big homecoming opening for Bush at the Arrowhead Pond (now the Honda Center) Eric Stefani called my house looking for Don to see if he wanted to go to the show...Eric had quit the band at that point to do his animation thing and the one thing I remember from that conversation was him saying how strange it would be for him to "go see his band"....

I remember the first tapes I owned. I got them as part of the BMG music deals, you know, 12 cassettes for a penny or whatever it was back in the day. The ones I recall off hand were

Europe - The Final Countdown

Ozzy - Ultimate Sin

Huey Lewis and the News (I forget the album name, but I loved that happy to be stuck with you tune)

Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet

and some were right on the tip of my tongue but I cant remember, I am sure they will come to me in a few minutes. But dont worry, I am a dork too.

First record I ever bought with my own money was probably The Oak Ridge Boys - Bobbi Sue, or whatever the album was called that had Bobbi Sue on it. :o I used to be a HUGE Oak Ridge Boys fan. In fact, I just bought one of their Greatest Hits CDs a few months ago because I was feeling nostalgic. :o :o :o Believe it or not, I still like a lot of it. :o :o :o :o :-[

Tapes were Slippery When Wet and Invisible Touch.

CDs are tricky because while I distinctly remember stealing my sisters Black Crowes and Great White CDs, I think the first CD I actually bought was Warrant - Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich. :o

My wife and I grew up in Hendersonville, TN, and The Oak Ridge Boys went to our churches. She was Methodist, and we still see Richard Sterban at her church on Christmas. He usually wears a really sweet purple velvet jacket. In fact, his daughter sang O Holy Night last Christmas, and she was pretty good. William Lee Golden attended my church, so I used to see him all the time. I never did speak to him. Johnny Cash was there on occasion too; I never approached him either. It was kind of funny running across people like that at church and the grocery store and such.

People mostly left him alone, but it was nice to know he was there. He lived three or four doors down from my friend, Kelly, and we used to party at her house plenty. Johnny lived on a closed-off compound, but he backed up to the lake. People used to go cliff jumping at or near his house, and called the shoreline there "Cash's Cliffs". If I recall correctly, the scene in the movie where he backs the tractor into the lake must have been completely fabricated. In real life, he and the tractor would have fallen about 40 feet into Old Hickory Lake. ;D

I imagine they can. You know, a lot of DVDs now have the full screen version on one side and the wide screen on the other.

I think the problem is that one side of a CD will hold 80 minutes of music. Bands can't even fill 60 of it with listenable music, so why bother to make a double sided CD? :D

lolz. I dont remember one, but we might have in Alaska. I just dont remember.

That's where you have a very small community...I think we had about 6 households. Each house has it's own number, so if someone called my neighbor across the street, our phone wouldn't ring, but if we needed to make a call, you could pick up the phone at our house and you'd be in a conference call of sorts with the neighbor's call. You didn't dare talk crap about your immediate neighbors when you had a party line, because all the had to do was pick up their phone and they could listen in to your conversation. Of course, they could join in on the conversation too. :D

I don't know exactly when we each got private lines, but it was probably the early 80s.
