View Full Version : Unloading a couple of my MIJ Fenders

And I heard a rumor that some of y'all might be interested, but that my PM Box was full. I cleared it out, so feel free to PM me...

I can't justify keeping so many of these things. The new PRS I ordered up last night was a big expense, and having so many duplicate MIJ's is just silly. So I decided to unload the two that are behind me in my profile pic.

1987 MIJ Strat, E Series, Squier branded. Alpine white with maple neck and fretboard. All original. 3 Single coils, 5-way switch.

1985 MIJ "Contemporary Telecaster" E Series Fender branded. Metallic green (But only in bright light, looks charcoal grey otherwise), with black neck, head stock and hardware. Rosewood fretboard. Dual Humbuckers, coil tap, 3-way switch.

Both are in great shape, but the Strat is especially so with only a few very minor dings and a little surface chip on the back side. The Tele has one 1/2" paint chip on the upper horn where it meets the neck pocket, but it's all but invisible unless you look for it.

Both have their complete "System 1" locking trem units that are in perfect working order. Contrary to popular myth, these trems weren't made by Kahler, but by Schaller. They are very stable and a TON easier to re-string than a Floyd equipped guitar.
EDIT*

These guitars are off the market.

From a quality perspective, I think they're some of the best made guitars you can find regardless of brand or country of origin. The Strat is a particularly glorious guitar. If I didn't have 5 others just like it... Well.

Anyway, I posted them on CL for $450 ea. but, obviously, I'd be more inclined to work with some of you guys on the prices. I'm less interested in the money than I am in making some room and finding them a good home.

As you can see from these shitty pictures. Both feature a perfectly imperfectly placed volume knob location! :D

Thanks, I have 7 more just like in varying colors and conditions :D

It's a great guitar. Plays like butter, stays in tune like a pitbull holding onto a steak. The factory HB's are very clean... Shockingly clean in fact. With the coil tap engaged, it can do a very realistic Strat tone. Otherwise, it takes a ton of gain to dirty them up. Which is probably why they aren't more popular with metal guys. It's got everything a metal head would love with the sole exception of some high powered pups. I have one with EMG's in it and it screams like a freaking banshee.

Green one is very hot. Did you post these over at HC?

Thanks, I didn't know it was green when I bought it on EBAY. It was grey in the pictures, and the guy didn't specify the color, so I assumed... He also didn't bother to mention that it was missing all of the fine tuners on the bridge, missing the trem arm, and had the aforementioned paint chip. So, the first thing I had to do when I got it, was to order up nearly $200 worth of very hard to get replacement parts for the bridge  So much for the good deal I thought I was getting. In the end though, once I got it all together, it was an exceptional guitar.

No, I didn't post them on HC. In fact, I don't remember the last time I posted anything over there at all, but I'd bet it's been at least 6 months. I just don't feel it anymore. The love is gone.

They might be a good sell over at in the EG forums... I seem to remember these being quite desirable at one point. I actually had a black strat version, but I fucking hated that trem. :o

When it comes to the trem unit, people either love them, or hate them. There is no middle ground. I like them because tey are far easier to work with than a Floyd. That said, they do lack some of the Floyd's adjust-ability (individual string height is not adjustable on these).

I'm in no rush to sell them, I'd rather wait a while to find a buyer, than to venture into HC territory. :D

My son wants a guitar to replace his strat copy, likes the feel of my CVC tele, and likes the idea of humbuckers. I am going to show your tele to him to see if it is something he has interest in. I told him I would match funds on the purchase of an upgraded guitar when he was ready.

What does that say about HC when you will go to CL but not them? :D

I don't want to start a problem, I'm not bashing HC, I just never felt exactly welcome over there in the first place, and over the last two years or so, it's just gotten to be a place I'd rather not hang out. There's still lots of cool people there, but I have precious little time as it is to hang out in forums, and this one feels like home. I spend most of my days on the computer, I generally keep MWGF in an open tab along with a few other sites that I need to use. Even then, It's hard to keep up and be able to contribute much. But, I really do love this place and all the folks that post here.

Hey guys, these bad boys are off the market. My wife TALKED ME OUT OF SELLING THEM!

Seriously.

She said (and she was right, as usual), that I'd kick myself for ever over letting them go. And, she still has no problem with the PRS I ordered up.

So, apparently, the guitars aren't the only things that are "Keepers" ;)

Well, back to the drawing board for my kid. No really, that's great! Glad you can keep 'em. Derek (my son) and I are considering either a tele project to make one something like that "Twang King" guitar I posted the other day. http://markweinguitarlessons.com/forums/showthread.php?27893-quot-Twang-King-quot-guitar.

I will post a new thread on the possible project but we are thinking making one out of parts, or more likely, a CV Thinline or Vintage Modified Thinline if the routing will work.
