View Full Version : Wine
Thought I'd chat a little about wine ::)
In moderation- a glass or two a day- benefits cardiovascular system. Both red and white wine boost heart-protecting HDL cholesterol. Red wine, in particular, seems to help ward of heart disease, blood clots and strokes because grape skins contain blood-thinning agents. (Grape skins are used in making red wine, but not white wine.) In excess, wine , because of its alcohol, can cause heart, liver and brain damage. Hmm. Anyway enjoy your wine. I like Carlos Rossi ( I think that is how it is spelled)

I love a nice red (you can keep your white, thanx). My father and brothers and I make our own red. This year's was an Opus style, which came out very nice. I always have a bottle chilling in the fridge, and often have a glass or two with dinner. If my family shows up, forget about it -- we'll drink 2 bottles each! :P

I know nothing about wine at all. Red with beef, white with fish and chicken i guess. I think i heard that on Frasier. hahaha.
I have tried it, but didnt really like it very much. I guess i just havent aquired a taste for it.

Yeah, I kind of forced myself to drink it, because I wanted to learn about it. Eventually, you learn how to examine the flavor of it, and the amount of tannins, etc. The big myth is that you have to spend a lot for a good bottle -- total BS. Charles Shaw (what we like to call ("2 buck Chuck") makes a great red. Try a bottle of Yellowtail -- they make some nice stuff. You may have to try wine several times to get used to it, but don't wait to long between tastings, or you might lose your taste for it!
BTW, I'm no expert, I just know what I like!

I think its pretty cool that you guys make your own wine...I go in phases where I drink it and then I don't. My brother in law is a big wine aficionado so I've been getting exposed to more and more good wines...I am more of a red fan myself :)

I've recently learned that alcohol could be one of the causes of the mild seizures I've been experiencing for the past two years. I had one within half an hour of drinking a glass of red wine on Saturday.
So, those days are gone for me. :-[

the best part about wine is when you stick your nose down in the glass and take a huge full-on whiff through your nose. It gives you a nice head rush for about 5 seconds. :P

Yep, I don't care what anyone says, that's how I like it. Not cold, but colder than room temp.
Crazy late bump, by the way...

I'll say, six months later. :o
If you like it that way, then more power to ya. Just never really heard of chilling reds unless it's sangria or something. idn_smilie

Guess you´ve already heard it, but I was a real wine addict for many years. I volunteered fro the Swedsih National Contest in Wine Tasting in 1997; there were 300 of the elite of wine testers in Sweden, and I became No 5 in that contest. Because of that I wrote wine articles in the second largest news paper in Sweden for almost 5 years. I even teached wine at my university for a while. Today I have other things to do. Wine is still just something to drink; it will not change the world if you drink a better wine, or if you decide to drink water. Still wine tasting is a very nice thing to do with some friends. I like it a lot.
