Is it my imagination or does the body on that look really small? (I know it's a big pic, folks...) I'd dwarf it, but I'd love to hear how it sounds.

Very plain Jane - but really nice too. I really like G&L guitars and I'd love to play one of those..

G&Ls have always been one of those guitars that I think they are great guitars for the most part, but they almost always look a little off to me.

So those are SC's in a P-90 type package ?

P-90s are single coils.

I realize that, but when you have a P90 style pickup you typically see it described as a P90, not as a Single Coil.

Just curious, I figure there has to be a significant difference or else they'd all be called "Single coils"

I think that the term "single coil" most commonly gets used to describe Fender style pickups even though p90s are single coils and so are the pickups in my Rickenbacker.....probably because a Fender style pickup just looks like half of a Humbucker (which some people call "double coil" pickups)

A humbucker is two single coils, so a single coil is half a humbucker. :o

Okay....most single coils are made so that the poles themselves are the magnets. There are some that have a bar magnet on the bottom and the poles are slugs, but typically, a Fender type single coil has magnetized poles.

A P-90 generally has the bar magnet on the bottom and the poles themselves aren't magnets. Same for humbuckers. The difference is that the humbucker has two distict coils which are wound in a way that the 60 cycle hum associated with each coil is out of phase with the other coil, so the hum gets canceled out or 'bucked'.

The biggest differences between a P90 and a Fender single coil are the magnet (Fenders normally have magnetized pole pieces, P90s have a bar magnet) and the fact that P90s have a lot more windings on the coil. The additional windings typically give P90s more output than a Fender type single coil, and change the voice of the pickup pretty dramatically.

and then you people wonder when i get into it with JJ and Mojofilter about stacked humbuckers vs. "noiseless single coils".

The G&L MFD high output single coil pickups are a bit like Tele pickups on steroids. They have a higher output and are a bit warmer toned - not the traditional Tele tone but in the same ballpark. They look a lot like P90's, but don't really sound like them. I like their tone quite a bit.

They also have a more traditional Tele pickup, but these are the high octane ones.
