"Glasgow Kiss" by John Petrucci. The song is on his solo album "Suspended Animation", which I really enjoy even though I am not a Dream Theater fan at all.

This is the live version from the G3 DVD:

Here he is demonstrating the tune at what looks like some sort of music trade show or clinic:

Cant view here from home, but Petrucci is just amazing. I liked DT's albums Images and Words, and A Change of Seasons.

I actually saw them live one time. They are all monster musicians. I look forward to hearing your clip.

I GOTTA GET A FASTER CONNECTION. >:(

The funny thing is that I have a bunch of DT albums but they don't do much for me as a band. A student gave me the "Suspended Animation" album and I think it is my favorite instrumental rock CD....its really straightforward and pretty heavy for some tunes..there is a cheesy ballad but other than that I really dig it....

Another one for when you get to work:

A demonstration of "Curve" from that album, too...

I checked out the first one and the last one. I am surprised at both. The first is not what I am used to from Petrucci. Sounds like himself, but actually being melodic instead of "look how amazingly technical I can be". I liked it better than most stuff I have heard from him, for sure. Still, I dont "feel" it, and I LIKE shred. He just seems so.....I dont know. Un-emotional about his playing is the best I can describe it. Maybe just plain TOO good.

And like I said, that is coming from a guy who still loves good shredding.

The last one, "Curve"....whoa is it just me or is he MAJORLY trying to cop Satch there?!?!? Seriously, that is the most I have ever heard anyone sound like Satriani that isnt actually Satch himself. And yet even with that one it seems a little "cold", but I definitely dug that one more than anything I have ever heard from him.

Dont get me wrong, a player like me has NO room to offer any sort of criticism about Petrucci. I will never have a quarter of the technical ability that he does. I just dont "feel" his stuff. Give me Batio over Petrucci for over-the-top shred any day of the week.

Having said all that, I feel that no "greatest rock instrumental ever" thread would be complete without this. Overplayed? Yes. Cliche? Yes. But no matter how many millions of times rock stations play it, this gets my blood goin every last time, and this guy is, IMO, the single most underrated player of all time:

I know what you're talking about..I really enjoy the album but it can be a little sterile.

Eric Johnsons been one of my favorites for year...Cliffs of Dover is always one of those things I work on for a while and drop it an then come back to it a year or so later...
