i would just go for a used MIM Fender or CV Squier. low line Yamahas and Ibanez have good fretwork, but feel kinda underwhelming.

Have you looked at Music-Go-Round? They usually have some decent basses in that price range.

ibanez makes good stuff. but i've found their super low end stuff to be way too light. i mean, it's either that or a boat anchor like i've found on a lot of low line Fenders. but hey, for $200 you can't ask for too much. they play well, and at that price, that's really all that matters.

Remember my piece of shit Xaviere? I have an SX that was $110 and kicks it's ass. Good fretwork, comfy neck, and a killer sounding P90 in the neck. Hardware was pretty crap, but it hasn't broken, so who gives a fuck? :idk:

Hey, I am glad you are happy, and not trying to take away from that. However, I do give a fuck. I don't like crap quality stuff. I want it to last. I don't care what country it was made in if it is well made with quality components. I am sure it is because I have made my living my whole adult life doing/making things for people, and I have no respect for crap workmanship. My SX is pure crap, and I recognize it. If it makes you happy, then that is cool, for sure, but I am never going to recommend them, or GFS, for that matter... Although Fender Custom Shop Prices are a joke, at least they make a lower end product that is affordable that isn't a piece of shit...

GFS pickups aren't bad. their aftermarket hardware and pickguards aren't bad either. it's the guitars that are dogshit.

Fender makes a ton of shit. especially in the under $500 range. the Classic Vibe has been a clear winner. the rest should be taken on a case by case basis. a Squier Affinity is still a POS. and that's what GFS and ***** are competing against.

you have to spend at least $250 to get a decent playing instrument. and your dollar obviously goes further when that $250 is spent on used gear.

i've only ordered pickups and pickguards. everything i've gotten has been quality. but i see the threads and what everybody else sees too. which is why i've only ordered what i've ordered.

I owned an Ibanez Soundgear 200 bass for several years. It was alright, I guess, as long as you didn't have a GOOD bass to compare it to.

You should be able to pick them up for around $200 or so.
