I had to buy a set of wrenches before rehearsal last night since the set I keep around the store was "misplaced" and tighten the fuel line into the carburetor on my truck again...nothing like smelling fumes, lifting the hood and seeing the top of your engine full of gas.

My father-in-law thinks that I need a new gasket, so I guess I know what I'll be doing in the next day or so.,...

yep...it was a nylon gasket instead of metal on the 1" nut that goes into the carb. Luckily he had one lying around so its all fixed now :)

This is your Chevy, correct? It's the 2 barrel, I'm guessing, a Rochester.

That hard line goes into the carb, and behind that big nut (where the fuel filter is) is supposed to be a gasket, kind beige in color. It's a 5 cent part, may have to get the whole rebuild kit to get it though.

That freaked me out... then I realized it's your site... you can do that kind of stuff! :D

Nah, leave her be. Those 2 barrel carbs were great. We used to flip the air cleaner lid upside down to give it that 4 barrel sound... boooaoaaoaoaooaooaoaoaoooaooaooaaaaammmmmmmm

I have the toys and want to play with them, though. :o

That and a turbo 350 transmission is sitting over there for me, too.

Mojo sent, Mark. After all the auto BS I've been in for the last couple of weeks I'm more than happy to give up that mojo and send it on to someone else.

I'm just glad this thread isn't about potato chips made with Olestra. :o

If you're going to swap out the tranny for one with a third gear, go ahead and get one with the 3rd gear PLUS an overdrive... the 700R4. Get the "non-electronic" version, i.e. one that can shift without a computer (my 84 Camaro came stock with one). If you can afford it, get it rebuilt, have a shift kit put in, maybe a new servo, and a new torque converter. You'll love the performance, and the gas mileage.

That would be col but I can't really afford it...and I have a completely rebuilt and unused Turbo 350 already....my budget for the whole project is pretty nonexistent. :(

I hear ya. Well, maybe do some research on the PG to THM350 swap. Will the driveshaft work or will it need to be shortened/lengthened, crossmembers, linkages, U-joints etc. It was a pretty common swap.

My father-in-law has a place to get the driveshaft done if it comes down to it...he did the research for his Willey Wagon that he put the 350 in. The rest probably won't be that big of a deal. Until we actually get into it :)

One thing to keep in mind regarding upgrading the carb; it might need a different cam. Not always, but some times the lift and duration of a 2bbl cam is insufficient for the extra gas.

Reminds me of something I did once upon a time

I had a 57 Chevy, got it from a buddy. He had a 327/4 speed in it, and by the time I got it the motor/tranny was pulled so I had to start over.

I rounded up a stock 283/Powerglide and dumped it in, got 4 bbl spreadbore intake and slapped it on. I had a 4bbl Holley 650 layin' around, so what the heck, I threw it on there and fired her up. I never could get that motor to run on that carb! Finally wound up putting a Quadrajunk on there. I drained the oil and it was full of gas, that''s how I learned my lesson on over-carbeurating an engine. Probably one of the most common mistakes novice hotrodders make. Heck, my Fox only uses a 650, and it makes somewhere around 300-320 hp.
