It's not nice to trick me into thinking the DOW dropped 1,095 at 9:40 in the morning. After that startle, who needs coffee? :o

Wouldnt surprise me, it dropped a bit more than half that in reality.

Yeah. The ticker was working when the markets opened. I watched it go to -690. It started to rebound and then refreshed to -1,095. I almost peed myself. Luckily I was on the phone with my BF. He was watching CNN and told me it was only -250ish.

There is a story on my Yahoo homepage right now asking "Will the market crash"?
What do they call this?

Stating the obvious???
If the market starts way down again they need to hit the 'stop' button and let everyone cool down over the weekend....

Yeah. I read that the market started down this morning because of automated "sell" orders as things hit their threshold prices and that just renewed the panic.
They should have just closed the markets today and let people chill out over a long weekend.

They should at least take Columbus day off.
Banks are closed, bond market is closed, but the stock market is open, which means I have to work, even though I work for a bank, which is closed.
Volume is typically pretty light on bank holidays when the market is open though (Columbus Day and Veterans Day). Hopefully it'll be a slow enough trading day that we don't completely bust the DJIA. :o

Just got an email from our market analyst. No body in the email...just a subject line. :o
IF THE LEG UP FROM THE LOWS THIS MORNING WAS "REAL", WE WOULD BE TRADING BETTER THAN WE ARE...I THINK WE GO LOWER..WE JUST BROKE A BIG INTRADAY LEVEL.

If it's any consolation, the same market analyst would have told you 6 months ago that AIG and Lehman Brothers were as good as gold. :o

Im wondering, back when this mess was being created, was anyone like warren buffet or anyone screaming that we were headed for trouble?
I remember talk about it being a bubble, but no one "in the know" seemed to be very earnest about how bad it was going to be.

Me neither. I heard lots of 'bubble' talk, but I don't recall anyone talking about anything this severe.

This yahoo site auto refreshes, and I haven't noticed it being FUBAR...from a technical standpoint anyway. :)

I'm actually pretty scared about the future.
We're taking a big gamble buying a house right now but if 2009 doesn't start an economic turnaround and our customers start losing their jobs I'll be working a second job. I've done it before because sometimes you've gotta do what you gotta do but the stakes are higher this time since I have a family to provide for now.
