View Full Version : Been all about Acoustic...
...I play my acoustic more than any other guitar. I play my electric maybe once every two or three days...I just like the bareness of my acoustic (that said, my electric tone is real clean, not much more than an acoustic)...
...Ive spent the last few days slowly strengthening my finger picking, travis picking and all that...Ive been going through Paul Simons early work...been on a bit of an Simon and Garfunkel kick...in the last 48 hours ive learned Kathy's Song, April Come She Will, Homeward Bound, I Am A Rock, Richard Cory, and A Most Peculiar Man...I picked up the Sounds of Silence LP at a thrift store a few weeks ago, and its been ruling my life...
...anywho, Ive been all about acoustic as of late...anyone else prefer to play acoustic most of the time?...anyone ever come to this forum anyway?...

we need a tumbleweed smiley.
i really dig my acoustics. they don't get nearly enough love on a regular basis. but i'm always at my most creative when i play them. i don't think that's an accident.

...I find that too...I think an acoustic is just more natural...theres less to fuss with, so its easier to mold the clay, so to speak...

Most of the time if I'm playing for fun it's on my acoustic. I normally teach on the electrics and record with them a lot, but if I could only have one guitar it would have to be an acoustic.

I like both acoustic and electric. In the country band I play about 2/3 acoustic and 1/3 electric, and if I get the band going I want it will probably be about the same ratio. Most of the newer songs I am working on right now are acoustic based...

I'm playing acoustically probably 90% of the time. It's just so simple. Pick it up, play, put it down. Done.

Played acoustic exclusively since age 15. (52 now).
Bought dream guitar (National Tricone) 4 years ago which lead to increased playing and learning and general excitement about this hobby. Which lead to taking a performance class with Mark. Which meant dusting off inherited electric guitar that sat in garage for 20 years. Now I play electric 80% of the time.

That brings back memories. I started playing guitar right around the time that S&G album came out. I was lucky enough to see them perform at a local high school auditorium. Paul Simon is an amazing guitarist.
I just about always play acoustic; at this time I don't even own an electric guitar.

I play both, but probably haven't picked up any of my electrics in about 4 months or so. I'm sure I will one of these days, but lately it's been acoustic every day.

I love playing acoustic, but an electric is much more convenient most of the time. I have a four year old daughter whose bedroom is right next to our office/guitar room. I play when she goes to bed at night or in the morning before she wakes up. So when I play, it's an electric either played through Gearbox or a G-DEC and headphones, or unplugged.
But, at any opportunity, I'll grab an acoustic and take it out in back to play. When it's not 115 f'ing degrees that is.

Yea, I am guilty of ignoring my 1978 Guild D-50 for the last couple years, but every time I finally pick it up, I am reminded that it was the best 300 bucks I ever spent... I guess the last time I played it was at our local bar for a hour jam/cover fest with conga player...
On the other hand, 90% of the time, I don't bother plugging in the amp when i practice on my electric guitar...

Mostly acoustic fingerstyle. Got a nice man cave and it's set up for both but I will play the sans-a-spark first. If, while playing it, something inspires me to plug in I'll switch.
Paul Simon also heeled me at a time when the acoustic guitar was holding its own. I know quite a few of his songs. Interestingly enough, his early career dream was to be a rocker. He just couldn't put that acoustic down long enough, I guess. Guess things worked out okay for him, though.
