A little high for a four-door post BelAir with what probably has a straight six due to the lack of any visible badging on the fenders. Now if it was 2 door hardtop Impala with a 283, I'd be all over it.

Those cars are cool, the best looking big Chevy's in that time period. It's Achilles heel is its X frame, there is no frame rail under rockers. The exhaust has to be custom made if you want duals, and the driveshaft goes right through the X via a carrier bearing (two-piece driveshaft).

It's still out there the last time I went by. I'm sure I could make a pretty good deal on it if I had the cash. I also know someone who owns a muffler shop so exhausts are cheap for me :p

I can't blame you for wanting one, if for no other reason than to keep someone from slamming it and putting airbags under it. That body style attracts more low rider dudes than any other. The only reason it's not already is because it's a 4 door. I had a 63 myself years ago. I love the dash. You could set a whole row of beer cans across it! :)

Understood, I wouldn't have this one had it not been a freebie. I had told my wife before I got it, that if I ever got another hot rod, it would be 90% complete, not 25% and tons of work, money, sweat and tears. Then this came along, and I'm having fun for sure.

My uncle Charlie had one new in '71, drove all the way from Atlanta with the hazards flashing (hazards were a new option) because he didn't know how he turned them on, got pulled over like three times :D The horn was/is a rubber "lining" all the way around the inside of the steering wheel. You just squeeze the wheel wherever you're holding it. Cool! Slant Six, you couldn't go wrong with that.
