My overdrive pedal Double Trouble by VisualSound sounds great and I usally get a good sound through the Yamaha amps gain...
Now the gain doesn't have the same feel and I can't play hard hard rock without it sounding retarded...
I need a distortion pedal badly!
What is recomended?

I would say if you have the budget, swap out the Yamaha for something else first AOK
Fulltone OCD is a solid choice... see if you can get one used of ebay before you buy a new one.

What bands are you playing, just mostly AC DC?

AC/DC, Guns N' Roses (old sexy one), Foreigner, and Metallica mostly...
there are more, but those are the most fun to play with

For what you are doing, I would dump the Yamaha and buy a used Classic 30. Or get something that is a decent platform for pedals. To get the most out of a distortion pedal, it should be pushing preamp tubes in a tube amp. A distortion pedal into a solid state amp really defeats the purpose and most likely will sound sterile and fizzy. You may do better with an RP 350 or something along those lines into the clean of the Yamaha.

depends on the amp. and a cheapo compressor makes a world of difference.

You could always take your amp and guitar to a store and start auditioning pedals. Agreed that a compressor might give him the sound bloom that he is probably looking for. Also, sometimes what you hear from your amp at home might not be ideal, but it might sit perfect in a band situation.

yes.
also, i have a DOD Milk Box compressor that i'll sell for $35 including shipping. the battery door is jammed closed, but the right amount of pressure should get it unwedged.

the MIJ DS-1 is the original distortion pedal that both Satch and Vai used. it is very marshall-esque and can be modded to sound even moreso. the aforementioned MI Audio Crunchbox is basically a modded DS-1. i looked for a YouTube vid, but couldn't find one worth anything.

I don't have that kind of money now...
How long are you willing to hold onto it? I need to earn it
Do you want to get rid of it soon or just anytime...
I'll get su pedal when I got the money...

Another suggestion - sell your Double Trouble pedal and buy a Jekyll/Hyde pedal. It has the OD and Distortion together...

I was first considering the Jekyll and Hyde, but I never got a chance to try it out...
How much could I sell the double trouble for and how much is the Jekyll and Hyde pedal?

you'll take a hit on the DT, but hopefully you'll make up for it by buying a used JH. see if you can't do a straight swap on HCFX or EG.

I couldn't swap it at stores right?
It would need to be with like one of you guys for instance? Not a store? messedup0
