I've been pretty resitant to the idea for awhile, but I finally signed up for....
a Twitter account?
But there's a reason for this. Since I'm in charge of my own scheduling and appointment keeping (we don't have a call center/receptionist/counter person at LMA) I decided to sign up for a Twitter account and email all of my students who are Twitter savvy so that they can subscribe and keep up to date on any cancellations due to weather or illness, as well as last-minute openings, and reminders of when we have important events at LMA. I still have no desire for a personal Twitter account, but this seems like a promising way to get up-to-date info to students when I really need to.
I'll let you know how it works out. :idk:

I don't do any tweeting myself, but I do have an account, and subscribe to close to 200 feeds. It's a fantastic way to keep up to date with what's going on. Say you've got a favorite blog or website; instead of having to check in a few times a week to see whether it's been updated, Twitter-savvy bloggers, writers, journalists, artists, managers, promoters, etc., can let you know directly: "New piece on __________ at LINK" or "Playing tonight at VENUE with ______________".
Not sure if it'd be great for your needs, though. A group text or a Facebook group would probably be more effective.

I normally send out group emails and make calls/texts as needed. I'm just trying to make it a little easier and avoid the constant "Hey, we had a snow day so we don't have to come in, right?" or the one that bugs me most... "Do we have lessons this week? I know you're going to be out of town sometime but I can't remember when." Yeah, if you wrote it down it would help... I've only told you three times.
Oh and Facebook is still not an option. :o

I'm not sure Twitter is really the answer for something like that. I'd probably just have an email list if I was going to do what you're doing. Or a Facebook Group. :o

We'll see how the subscriptions go... if it's a bust I can always delete it. :idk:

It's free so anything like that you try is worth it. You never know whats going to work with your particular group of customers. I've discovered that marketing (at least for what we do) has become a very dynamic issue and you have to try and stay ahead of the curve. Phone calls take too much time in todays fast paced guitar teaching environment. Plus then you actually have to talk to people :o

This.
Plus some of us don't have fancy-schmancy receptionists. :o

Voicemail? Texts? Email as previously mentioned? Yahoo Messenger?
Just shows how long it has been.

Well, if anyone wants to check it out, it's up now. I thought the colours were fairly eye-pleasing, but if someone thinks it need's a change, lemme know. And yes, I know I have no subscribers. I just sent out the email a few minutes ago. :o

As do you. :o
Does it look ok? I didn't want a guitar theme since I teach more than that... just a general music one and since I love vinyl LPs and have some hanging in my studio I went with that. :idk:

I think it's fine. I've never even set up a theme on mine.
