View Full Version : Patterns for fast Arpeggios
I am trying to branch out. I am looking for patterns for playing fast arpeggios. The sound? Metalish, I guess. My playing is pentatonic-box-based--not-much-of-anything-else.
I am in a place where I don't fit in beginner (I've been playing for 25 or so years), can play most intermediate stuff if I work on it hard, but want to play like a pro. I haven't played in 8 months and have no chops. I have no practice habits right now, but am remedying that tonight. Arpeggio patterns is where I want to start.
Does Mark's book have anything on this?
Any video lessons? Sort of like this one:

Hi Affy!
I have a whole technique section on my lesson site here : http://markweinguitarlessons.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=category§ionid=6&id=15&Itemid=39
There are alternate picking etudes, exercises and legato etudes and exercises. I don't have any sweep arpeggio stuff but you might have inspired me to start a new video lesson series for this week. I haven't done anything new in a couple of months but one thing I am laacking on the site is sweep picking and its something I've been getting a bit more into myself recently.....
Have you looked around the site at the other lessons? There is a ton of material there that might keep you busy for a while...

Have fun!
Mark, I want to sincerely thank you for the lesson. I feel like it was customized for me, because it is exactly what I wanted. I will work on it extensively this week. Wow. I feel good about learning. I haven't felt that in a while. AOK

I'm glad you dig it!
I needed an excuse to get the video lessons going again so I owe you that smi
I have something I'm working on for February that you might dig if you can find the time as well....I'll post that in a few days when I get all the details worked out...
Just letting you know that for the first time in 8 months, I picked up the guitar today. I am not noodling around like I usually do. I immediately started on your Sweep Arpeggio Primer. The fingers don't want to work, but I am taking it slowly. On the A Minor, I have the downward sweep working, but in ultra slow speed. The speed will come. I am just running it over and over, trying to get the memory in my fingers to kick in. Tough going so far, but hanging in there. About to start the sweep back up. :weebz:

Great! Slow and accurate is what you are shooting for. Once you have that (are you using a metronome?) then you can speed it up.
there are a ton of guys who sound like they can shred this but can't do it in time at the slower tempos, and it should be a technique that you can use at any tempo.
Practiced a little more tonight and got frustrated. I should have left it alone for a while.

Nah...just put it down when it stops being fun...
I'm up to try again today. Work keeps getting in the way. Taking the kids to see a Joe Scruggs musical thing tonight at 7.
Late tonight, I will pick her (guitar) up again.

cool...just be patient with anything you work on...getting these skills together should be looked at as a longer term endeavor... smi
