Not the best pictures (these were taken with my phone) but its an example of what happens when you leave a guitar leaning against the couch where small children love to chase dogs....

Ouch, that sux. I had that happen once, i had loaned out a cheapo squier P bass and it came back like that. It was such a cheap guitar i said forget it, but still . . . .

That's why I always use hardcases.

99% of the time a gig bag would be fine, but that last 1% is a real bitch.

Both of my electrics are in gig bags. I do need to get hard cases for them.....

that's not a case issue. its a stand issue. your students should have stands that the guitar is secured to. putting a guitar in a case just means i'm not gonna play it as much. i can just grab for it on a stand though.

do you sell stands?

Actually, its a "don't leave your stuff laying around unattendend issue". biggrin

I don't even have stands in my house although they are all over the studio. My favorite stand right now is a Hercules stand that locks the guitar in automatically but most of my students don't bother buying expensive stands so I don't stock anything like that anymore....

i dunno, i always feel like if i give a good reason why they should use something, they'll buy it. they have to have a metronome, and they have to buy these books, and i can probably sell them a guitar stand too. we stock them, it shouldn't be that difficult to sell.

I try not to hammer my students on gear, especially right now. Typically in the first week of lessons with me they've paid for a month of lessons, a $20.00 registration fee, a book for $18.95+tax and a Metronome for $28.00. Maybe even a tuner. I'll suggest other stuff but I don't really get after them about it...
