I've brought this up before, but I really need to do it again. Maybe it's a setting I have wrong or something.

Anyway, I have this problem on my work computer (IE7) and my home computer (IE8) and it only happens on this forum. It's been like this since the forum upgrade.

When somebody posts an image that is too wide for the screen, the scroll bar to control horizontal scroll doesn't appear on my browser window, it appears at the bottom of the post.

The problem is that if the post contains lots of text or multiple pictures, I have to do a vertical scroll to the bottom of the post to get to my horizontal scroll. So, I can't just scroll across the picture. I have to look at the left side of the picture, then verticle scroll to the bottom of the post, then horizontal scroll to the right side of the post, then vertical scroll back up to see the right side of the picture. It's highly annoying.

Here's what I mean.

Here's a thread Cheese Grits posted. Notice how there is no horizontal scroll bar visible anywhere.

Now, if I use the vertical scroll to get to the bottom of the post there is a horizontal scroll there, but I now can't see the picture at the top of the post, so I can't just look at the picture and scroll across to see it...I have to scroll over, then scroll back up.

When I've brought this up before, it seems that nobody else had the issue. Both Mrs. P and I have it and we both HATE it. Is it just a forum setting somewhere, or an IE setting? I don't think it's an IE setting because all other forums I visit display the scroll bar at the bottom of the window instead of the bottom of the post.

I also have this same issue with larger images. It does make it very difficult to look at images, because you can't tell if you are scrolling over enough or too far.

There are no forum settings for this. I will take a look and see if it's been changed in any updates (there have been two new versions since I upgraded to this one). I was going to dop an update this week or next....

I'm on Firefox too and don't have it. What version of IE are you guys running?

I just tried it in IE8 and didn't have the problem, either.

If your companies are stil running IE6 they have had some display issues with it...

yeah, but you have a 92" monitor.

also, i think it's a browser issue. in Chrome, i can scroll over in any post of a thread that is made too wide by a big pic. even if that post has no content way over to the right.

I just tried it at work on my IE8 browser and it was fine....

Here at home I have a 17" flatscreen.

vBulletin 4 is full of these kinds of issues.

I just re-read the OP and saw IE7. I wonder if thats the issue...

I have IE8 at home though, and still have the issue. And it's only here. On every other forum I've tried, it has the scroll on the window, not the post.

Very strange. I might post in the lounge asking who else runsinto this...

Check Eloy to see if he is having the problem also...I'm just checking a hunch.

Mark, did you make any changes? I have the scroll bar on the browser this morning on IE8. I'll check when I get to work to see if it's there too. :idk:

Still screwy from work. Maybe it's always been okay on IE8. :idk:

That might be the case. I didn't have time to do anything yesterday.

Not sure if you have access but look at this: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?362853-image-scrolling-in-4.0.7&highlight=scroll

It might be fixed in the pending update. If I can find time this week I'll get it installed...if not then early next week...

No rush on my part. It's been that way since the last forum upgrade. I can deal with it a little while longer....

As for Mrs. P's laptop, I can just install IE8 and solve the problem. I guess I could do the same on my work computer, but the powers that be generally frown upon installing 'unapproved' software. That said, I installed my IE7 myself because one of the web based software applications we use had upgraded and wouldn't even load with the IE4 or whatever was the approved browser at the time. I may go ahead and install it. Better to ask forgiveness than permission or something like that. :o

Yep. Went ahead and installed IE8 and the scroll bar is on the browser instead of in the post now. Weird.

I'll install it on Mrs. P's laptop when I get home. :aok:

That still leaves her work computer with IE7 (or lower maybe), but I don't think she can install anything on that without going through IT.

Let me know if it still does it now...I've done the upgrades we needed today...

I'll try to remember to check on Mrs. P's laptop (IE7) tomorrow. Everything is good on IE8.
