...who are you influences, production wise?...who do you draw from, or admire when it comes to actually making a record...I got a lot of various influences, that I try and take this and that from...
...for me, Steve Albini is big, especially his work on Surfer Rosa...I love the production on that...especially the drums...then of course theres the team of Sir George Martin/Norman Smith/Geoff Emmerick...just those three alone deserve the credit for greatest productions of all time...Jimmy Page, I took a lot about textures from him...I used to record drums up close...and they always sounded flat, then I read his quote, "Distance equals depth", and I moved the mic(s) back, and boom...huge difference...
...I also think Alan Parsons deserves some credit too, especially for his work on Dark Side of the Moon...if you really sit and listen to it, I mean REALLY listen to that album, its amazing...Rudy Van Gelder was another...his mixes had such depth on them...and from a home studio at that...Teo Macero, Bob Johnston, basically that whole early to mid to late 60's Columbia team...great stuff...
...I just realized I could probably do a whole thread on producers I despise too...another time perhaps...
