I've never cared for the JP EBMM. I think it's the body shape and the funky inlays, but I'm not sure.

I'm starting to sound like a broken record, I know, but I'm sure it's a great guitar, it just does nothing for me.

Believe it or not I am something of a Petrucci fan...mostly of his solo stuff, though.

I'm not a fan of tops like that, though.EB guitars look like ukeleles on me anyway :weebz:

Here are a few of my favs by him:

I really can't stand Dream Theater but I like listening to Suspended Animation when I go jogging.

Glasgow Kiss makes a good picking exercise, too smi

i never really got into DT. and if i want to listen to high gain soloists, there's already Vai, Satch, and Beck.

The problem with Petrucci is that its a little sterile. I enjoy it on one levelbut I was watching some old Yngwie with one of my students last night and found myself enjoying the fact that there were dynamics and he was playing like he meant it....

The whole genre of shred guitar is fairly ridiculous but I do get some enjoyment from it biggrin

i've always liked Yngwie, but can't stand his vocalists.

shred is no more ridiculous than jazz. it just has more pooched out succulence.

The vocals and especially the lyrics are pretty goofy.

It is a really beautiful guitar, but the inlays at the first & twelfth fret have to change. I also liked them better when they had the built in piezo pickup on board.

I like Petrucci's playing though. Mainly the first few Dream Theater albums, his live release with Jordan Rudess (great CD!!), and his stuff with Liquid Tension Experiment.

Here is Petrucci being very tasteful......
