Question about Flu Shots...

I've never had a flu shot and I'm fairly certain I've never had the flu. Teaching exposes me to a lot of people and although I'm not around school aged children often (I do work Junior Jazzercise B'day parties.), I thought it might be wise to have one. Should I even bother?

Personally, i wouldnt if i were you, although i know a lot of people do.

I never have gotten one. Sometimes i get the flu, you feel lousy for a few days then it goes away.

Its not like we are in some high risk category for complications or death.

So far, i have always passed on getting one.

I usually pass on them unless I know I'm going to be around people with compromised immune systems (like when my dad was getting chemotherapy).

My sister who works in the healthcare field just gave me a rash of shit about getting a flu shot since I teach kids as well as adults...I personally think they are kind of a crap shoot since you might not even be getting a shot for the kind of flu that goes around in your area, but since my degree is in music and not medicine you should take that for what its worth...

It is most crucial if you are over 60 to 65 or a kid. Those are the two age groups the flu (the real deal) hits the hardest. My daughter got the real flu two years ago and was out of school for a week and was pretty miserable for a few days.

I don't get the shots and never have. I have gotten pneumonia shots in the past (they are good for five years), but that is because I have had pneumonia twice as an adult, though not in the past 15 years (thank God - that is miserable...).

I've gotten the pneumonia shot...I had it once as a teenager and once 4 years ago that had me in the emergency room... >:(

Im not a big fan of shots. Im not totally freaked about it, like phobic, but unless i feel i really need it, id rather not have stuff shot directly in my veins.
