Okay...

So my company wastes untold amounts of money by publishing a hardcopy newsletter every week. 90% of the time, 90% of the employees don't even open the newsletter. They just pitch it. Last week's edition caught our eyes though, because the main story on page 1 was about outsourcing.

Apparently a month or two ago, they outsourced accounts payable to India. The article was all about patting corporate on the back for saving the money, and they even found all of the displaced workers other jobs within the company.

In the last month, our cable bill has not been paid, expense reports are taking weeks to get paid instead of days, and you can apparently forget about faxing your receipts in like you're supposed to...obviously they haven't got the fax machines there working yet.

So, I've got a $50 parking expense every month. I'm trying to get it turned in so I can get a reimbursement, but I can't get the stinkin' fax to go through with my receipt.

I'm reading the submittal form and I see:

FAX ONLY: Do Not Mail
If Unable to Fax,
Call Enterprise Spend Management
Whiteville, NC, XXXXX-XXXX
Fax # 252-XXX-XXXX

No FREAKING PHONE #, ASSHOLES!!!!

Sorry...I feel better now. :o

Cleansing breaths...

In with the good air, out with the bad air.

Breathe in...breathe out. Breathe in...breathe out.

That's good. :o

Welcome to India......

Not a racist comment, but just facts. They don't the jobs as well....

Well, my fax FINALLY went through. I only had to send it 4 times.

Now let's see if I actually get my check.

Yep, we have found out the hard way. Outsourcing overseas looks like it saves money at first blush, but there are all sorts of costs and headaches that make it not worth it in a very short period of time.

These people who are outsourced to do these jobs often have a difficult time speaking English clearly, which leads to miscommunication and other problems. It is nothing against them whatsoever, but if you are hired to do a job for an American company, then you need to speak very CLEAR English. I get calls from people all the time to do surveys and what have you, and sometimes I can barely understand them.

In our case, we sent some manufacturing over to China. They really do try to do well, and welcome our business. But problems in shipping, things getting hung up in customs, miscommunications over quality issues, just one thing after another put the cost nearly back up to what it was here.

That is not just overseas...

Probably close to 70% of the fast food workers in the Denver area are Mexican immigrants. Half of them speak very little English which means they are usually on the food production lines (and do a good job at it too). But all too often you get someone with a heavy accent working the drive through window, which is supreme stupidity. Generally it is hard to understand native English speakers on the low quality speakers they use at those places. It is well neigh impossible when the worker has an accent......

I had to call HSBC customer service once, I got routed to india and had a very hard time understanding anything the CSR was saying. I asked if there was someone else I could speak to who spoke better english and magically the speed and accent that she was speaking with diminished and I could understand her.

Faxing might be less annoying ;)

Funny how that works, huh?
