With all the open cubicles around here I usually don't have any music on. But I need to listen to a bit of 'Blackhawk' today. We have a new bass player in our band, and I have to pickup some of the vocal parts our last bass player sang and the Blackhawk song is one that I just can't figure out in my head, so I need to listen to the song a couple dozen times to get it down...

Do you have Tokyo Tapes by the Scorpions? That was the one live album from that era that I had by them...you might really like it...

As a matter of fact I do...I have very limited room on my 256MB mp3 player (The backup for the 4GB one that broke a couple weeks ago) so I haven't gotten to listen to it a whole lot...I'll get to it eventually though :)

I stayed stuck in the 70's and "Hair Metal" way too long, so i sorta enjoyed discovering stuff everyone has already gotten tired of. I kinda like bands like Jet, Shinedown, Cake and such.
Im even on a Breaking Benjamin kick right now, im not sure if folks around here put them in the Nickleback category or not, but there it is. I like 'em.

The idea with the "Onion Girl" was that every time you peeled back another layer there'd be more tears.

What kind of music is Lambchop?
They describe themselves as "Nashville's most f**ked up country band", but it's not really country. It's kind of down-tempo soul or folk, with some ambient elements. It's hard to say what kind of music it is because the band is always changing in major ways, and they have put out tens of records over the past couple of decades. The constant is this guy, Kurt Wagner, who is an art school student turned musician who supports himself as a skilled tradesman. He's some kind of carpenter. Most of his bandmates are guys with trades like that. My friend, Bill Killabrew, played guitar in the band for a while, and he lays wood floors and paints for a living. If you know Josh Rouse at all, he did an EP with Wagner. In fact, I would say that Rouse's early period (Dressed Up Like Nebraska, Home, and Under the Cold Blue Stars) is basically Lambchop with shinier pop vocals. Wagner is like a less gravely Tom Waits.
Here is a track from the new album: http://cdn.stereogum.com/mp3/Lambchop%20-%20Slipped%20Dissolved%20And%20Loosed.mp3
