The guitar that won the hearts and minds of a generation.
Inspired by the 1960s SG Special, the Gibson SG Classic Electric Guitar with P-90 Pickups re-creates the look and sound of the most influential guitar in both Britain and the U.S. during the psychedelic era. It has the original all-mahogany body, dual P-90 pickups, and a bound rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays.

A Little SG History
In 1961, the Les Paul was redesigned with a thinner body and 2 sharp cutaway horns that making the upper frets more accessible while lowering production costs. The new guitar was popular, but Les Paul the guitarist did not like it and asked to have his name removed. Gibson renamed the model the "SG" which was short for "solid guitar". Though Les Paul's name was officially removed from the model in 1961, the plastic Les Paul nameplates (positioned between the rhythm pickup and fingerboard) were in abundance in the Gibson factory and SG models having these nameplates were built and sold by Gibson up to end of 1963. SGs have been the choice of world-class artists such as Pete Townsend, Eric Clapton, Tony Iommi, and Angus Young.

while out looking for a bass yesterday, i played an SG Classic at GC and had i been in the market for a guitar, i would have taken it home. it was the best playing and sounding Gibson i've ever come across. but given my collection, i just don't need it.

when my student rocklegend0407 got his SG I played it for about 10 minutes and didn't want to give it up. I was very surprised at how much I liked that guitar.

And I also need another guitar like I need a hole in the head messedup0

i came home, played my guitars, and reinforced that i really didn't need that SG. i've already got it covered.

yeah, but at some point you become like a girl with too many shoes. that's when you have to get it down to the essentials and just shut up and play.

I play quite a bit. Enough to earn a living. Of my "good stuff" I play the top 4 guitars almost daily. the other 8-10 guitars I really just keep for sentimental reasons and aren't the greatest instruments. That's my "Imelda Marcos" side :weebz:

The SG would be more of a "fun" guitar, though. I really can't justify spending the money for the time being so I'm not.

My buddy Scott has a Firebrand SG:

I think he got it for around $600 and its a pretty cool guitar without being too expensive...wouldn't be a bad alternative...

I'm not a huge SG fan, but if I were to get one, it would probably be that one.

apparently they're being discontinued. so you should get one while you still can.

Try as I may, I just can't get myself to like them.
