Im actually not sure if I am having lunch. I have barely eaten over the weekend (just a couple wings, and a handful of Doritos last night!) and I had some combos this morning and I am not really ungry. Not like me at all, but if I am not hungry, ya know, maybe I should take advantage of it. ???

So anyway, I cant let you guys down so, here's your thread :)

I have this, leftover from the weekend. Carne Asada Burrito from Alberto's taco shop up in Riverside.

I used to live across the street from one in Fullerton that was open 24 hours...I used to eat that stuff CONSTANTLY.

Thats the place. My GF had a CBEST test and Riverside community college. After the test we went to eat, and you can't throw a stick in Riverside without hitting a mexican food place. There was, no joke, 2 Alberto's within a mile of each other. hahaha

Most of the Alberto's around here have been sold off but the new owners have mostly kept the old menu...some of the best Mexican fast food in the area...just none here... >:(

I had a Zatarain's Red Beans and Rice with Sausage - for a nuke-it-for-60-seconds-in-a-pouch meal, it was actually pretty taasty. I foresee more of them in my future.

I dropped 30lb and I've been stuck there. Blow it on the weekend and then get back to where I started each week...I'm still running but the eating on the weekend is killing me. I am to lose another 20lbs per my doctors orders and I really need to get back on track :(

Qdoba. Queso burrito with the red salsa. It was really good but I wish they would mix it before they give it to you.

I am becoming addicted to the Queso burritos! Those are seriously good, and there is a Qdoba a five minute walk from our house.....

Is it like Chipotle?

Pretty much identical, with a few different twists on the sauces.

We have tons of good Mexican food here as well. I'd say too much but Mexican is my favorite food so you cannot have too much good Mexican food...

If I lived in SoCal and was surrounded by all the authentic Mexican places you guys are, I probably wouldnt be a big Chipotle fan either, but it was the closest place to get something that would satisfy the craving I got after seeing Phil's photo.

Now, you guys are welcome to send some of that stuff my way and I will gladly leave Qdoba and Chipotle alone. ;D

The funniest is when my brothers family comes out from Rhode Island...every meal is Mexican food while they're here...when my sisters come out from New York on the other hand I just hear complaining :)

If you are really into spicy stuff, mexican is ok, but NOTHING beats Thai.

I love Thai food, and if you want it hot, they can take the top of your head off.

I've only had Thai once, and my wife ordered what we were having since I didn't know what was what...I liked it but I don't think she got anything particularly spicy...

Usually they let you pick heat levels 1-5, especially on the curry stuff.

I can take a LOT of heat, and i usually pick #3. 5 would have you begging for mercy.

If you ever get a chance though, try masaman curry. It has a peanut type sauce, and is delicious delicious. Just order a medium heat.

Tom Kai Gai soup is awesome as well.

There are several (allegedly) good Thai restaurants around here....Once my wife is back on her feet we'll have to try one...

I really enjoy ethnic foods, in some cases the wilder the better. My taste buds get bored easily. ;D

Remember the Chicken Feet i cooked? :o

Mark Wein
10-06-2008, 09:14 PM
Actually, I don't remember those :o

I've never been too into ethnic foods (outside of mexican, of course) but my wife has expanded my horizons in the time we've been together...I'm slowly experimenting...

Phil513
10-06-2008, 09:16 PM
Well i considered putting my Chicken Feet recipe in the forum, but i knew it would never be used. hahaha.

Besides, its hard to find them, unless at the larger asian markets, like over in Covina.

Maybe part of my issue is my lack of ability to smell. So i need things to sorta be spicy and strong tasting, subtle bland food does nothing for me.

Mark Wein
10-06-2008, 09:29 PM
You totally should post it! ;D

The smell thing is an important part of taste...

Phil513
10-06-2008, 09:32 PM
Yeah, im sure it is. People always ask me if i can taste at all, and really i can. But im sure its not the same as those who can smell. That why i love spicy, vinegary, strong tasting stuff.

Mark Wein
10-06-2008, 09:37 PM
My sense of smell is not as good as my wifes, and her sense of taste is also more subtle...when she told me my beans weren't "too spicy" yesterday I know they would be bland for me :)

We're being eco-friendly.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

I'm going to Max & Erma's today. I have a coupon for a free appetizer so I'm getting their super yummy cheese skewers. I'll probably get a veggie burger and then the girls that I am going with and I are are ordering the half dozen fresh baked chocolate chip cookies to share. MMMmmmm. They're going to have to roll me out of there. :D
