So, I took my car in to the body shop and had my door fixed, where the moron in the beat-up white van had dented and scraped it with the edge of his door.

Got it all the way home, was opening my garage door (by hand) and noticed a bunch of scratches all over the hood of my car, a couple that are 2+ inches long and have been touched up.

I've owned that car for a month now and have never seen those scratches, I swear they were not there when I purchased the vehicle.

Not the greatest way to tell if there's a scratch or not, but in this pic, even zoomed in (using the windows zoom thingy when viewing it in 'My Pictures') I cant see scratches. They would be on the passenger side top-of-the-hood, roughly 8-12 inches from headlight, and more to center than where the hood 'ridge' is near the side.

(pics from day I brought car home from the dealer)

This one I can't tell, too many reflections

But needless to say, after being under the hood a couple times checking the oil, having numerous friends and family check out the car and no one noticed scratches (Like I said, a couple of them are VERY noticeable) 'til now? I don't think so....

Body shop claims they didn't do them, their word against mine as unfortunately I don't have any better pics.....

Why is it that new cars always get beat up like that?

We've owned one brand new car. That's the 04 Dodge Stratus. Within a month of buying the car, a buggy got blown across a parking lot in a wind storm and ran up onto the hood, causing about a 6" scratch, and somebody bumped the back bumper, denting the license plate and scratching the paint in a couple of places.

We didn't get either of those fixed, even though it would have been the guy that bumped the rear bumper who had to pay for the damage to the back of the car. I was able to use a paint pen to cover those two scratches and unless you're looking for them, you can't see them.

This is the same car that got hit in the parking lot last week, and whoever hit it just left. Don't feel like shelling out $500 deductable on it, seeing as the car is now 6 years and has 175,000 miles on it.

The mini-van, on the other hand, is falling apart on its own accord, yet nobody has done any damage to it since we've owned it.

The truck has it's share of dents and dings, but they are all from using it as a truck.
