Mark,
What is the advantage of the "caged method" vs traditional modal study?

They are two different things.
CAGED is just a method to organize your physical scale patterns...studying modes is about how different arrangements of notes give you different tonalities.
I think people most often make the mistake of thinking that a mode is a scale pattern when it is in reality a sound...the pattern just helps you get to the sound but if you don't understand how the notes relate to each other and the underlying harmony the patterns are useless.

I would like to know where CAGED starts for Major Scales of C, D, E, F.
What fret??? Is the position sequence still 4, 5, 1, 2, then 3???
I started with G on Fret 3, string 6, position 4,5,1,2,then 3
A seems to start on Fret 5, string 6, position 4,5,1,2,then 3
B seems to start on Fret 7, string 6, position 4,5,1,2,then 3
ALSO, Is the above correct???
Peace...Michael

Hi Michael...that is correct.
How well do you know your notes going up each string? As long as you know your notes on each string you have your starting point for whichever pattern starts on that string. In the CAGED system lesson I have a link to this bit from my book: "Finding your notes on the Fretboard" (http://www.markwein.com/PDF/Findingyournotes.pdf). Working your way through that might be a big help....let me know if you're still having problems!

Then I looked at Marks avatar.......
and that exactly how I feel when I try to understand "CAGED Primer"
On a good note I have been trying to get the riff down to Voodoo Chile and this weekend.....Nailed it!
